Skout Ambassador: Desiree Marek

"I have never been an athlete. Because my family didn’t have much growing up, work always had to take precedence over sports. As a young adult, work, again, had to take precedence so I could pursue an education.

It wasn’t until the fall of 2009 that I began running and learned what it meant to be an athlete. Since then, I have seen places I never thought I’d see, have run a breadth of distances I never thought possible, and have completed 8 races of 100 miles or longer, including a 100-mile slam and the Badwater 135."

Desiree Marek began running in 2009 to support her brother, who was encountering health issues and started running to strengthen his body.

"My brother is the reason I started getting up on Saturday mornings to run, and then on Sundays, and then on weekdays. He and I have run countless miles together and have run many races side by side."

Desiree fell in love with the bond that came with the sport of running.  The persistence and effort exhibited by her brother and others in the running community inspired Desiree want to improve herself.

For Desiree, sports have always been about more than finish times and rankings.

"Sport is about exploration, endurance, finding your limits and moving past them. It’s about growth.

Sport is about community and helping others achieve things they never thought possible; it’s about being part of something bigger than you are."

It is this outlook that makes us excited to have Desiree join the ranks as a Skout ambassador!

"Skout works for me because it provides me substantive fueling without making me feel full. I can rely on the products to give me the energy I need without forcing me to slow down or stop what I’m doing due to stomach upset.

After every run, I always have a Skout bar waiting for me; it’s the one thing I look forward to as I push through those last miles. During longer pushes, it’s the solid, substantive food I depend on to to supplement performance fuel and provide me with long-lasting energy."
